Hi:
I'm temporarily 'housing' some bees in the garden for a friend. I'm not
a beekeeper and have no particular knowledge of bees. The other day I
went to make sure they were ok. It was rather damp, but not raining,
chilly and quite windy. It was also early in the morning, and the bees
were still curled up in bed.
What should I see but a robin pecking round the front of the hive,
apparently at the dead bees that had been ejected. Eventually he started
edging closer to the hive and peering in through the entrance. Suddenly
he actually pecked inside the entrance. He came away entirely unscathed,
thank goodness.
But what was he eating, and how did he know that he would be safe?
