My wife and I are new at bee keeping. I was told that Eucalyptus leaves under the hive can help get rid of some of the mites that the bees can get. I was thinking of putting some of the shredded pine (like for a hamster cage) and putting a few drops of Eucalyptus oil on it instead of the leaves underneath a hive? If this is acceptable, how much of the oil should I use? I have never tried this method but will when I need to. I would have assumed it would need to be in the hive for the odours to affect the mites.
