Probably a contributing factor. Talking on a mobile while driving is
dangerous; it's downright suicidal to do it while flying.

Very unlikely and so far I've seen zero evidence that cell phones
have anything to do with CCD.

With a little effort you might discover the suspected agent is a form of
nosema.

But in the article cited by Nozza's thread i.e. from the Independent there's
this:

"Now a limited study at Landau University has found that bees refuse to
return to their hives when mobile phones are placed nearby. Dr Jochen Kuhn,
who carried it out, said this could provide a "hint" to a possible cause."

My take on the above is that if the microwave radiation from cell phones is
causing bees to loose their way now and not before is because the number of
cell phone towers, that are ever increasing, have in these areas of massive
bee losses, reached a concentration where the ambient level of microwave
radiation has equaled or exceeded the amounts in the Landau University
experiment.

Maybe the next (official, blue ribbon, high level et.al.)study should plot
cell phone tower locations against those apiaries that have sustained heavy
loses.

ref. NOZZA's thread:

http://news.independent.co.uk/environment/wildlife/article2449968.ece

There's other things of interest there too:

Evidence of dangers to people from mobile phones is increasing. But proof is
still lacking, largely because many of the biggest perils, such as cancer,
take decades to show up.

Most research on cancer has so far proved inconclusive. But an official
Finnish study found that people who used the phones for more than 10 years
were 40 per cent more likely to get a brain tumour on the same side as they
held the handset.

Swedish research revealed that radiation from mobile phones killed off brain
cells, suggesting that today's teenagers could go senile in the prime of
their lives.

Professor Sir William Stewart, who has headed two (British) official
inquiries, warned that children under eight should not use mobiles and made
a series of safety recommendations, largely ignored by ministers.

Do many people leave their phones at a hive?

Pffpt! The problem would have shown up years ago.

humm..well I see you're not concerned but there are still those out there
who prefer to take precautions. The Aegis Corp. a defense contractor sells
radiation blocking for wireless devices. Have a read of their take on the issue:

I bet they're just trying to scare us into buying their wireless radiation
shields.
