Although it initially seemed implausible, radio netherland's
explanation of Mugabe/ZANU-PF's deeper reason for
confiscating the 'white' owned farms is perhaps better than
the simplictic one normally given.
As we know, the land confiscation resulted in many thousands
of farm workers becoming destitute. Importantly, for the plan,
these farm workers, being without fixed residence, were then
deregistered from voting.
Also the new owners/looters/squatters would be
Mugabe/ZANU-PF supporters.
To judge the viability of the scheme one would need to know
the voting ratios and sizes of various constituencies; quiet
an accounting job.
Did Mugabe/ZANU-PF hire consultants ?

Nothing new here Chris, that's exactly why they did it. they couldn't
influence the voting in these areas without white farmers kicking up a
ruckus if they used their age old tactics of violence and intimidation. They
had to break this voting block and land redistribution fitted perfectly. If
they were serious prior to this point, they had 20 years to do something
about it and did nothing
